In that quiet period before Finals Night, there's always time for a good story :-

"The Jockey Club Aunt Sally team, from the Witney Snooker Club (plus a couple of extras) celebrated their end of season with a weekend away in Birmingham.
Whilst there they had a full hospitality day at West Bromwich Albion FC,
They were main match sponsors, in the name "Aunt Sally The Witney Jockey Club", for West Brom v Watford."

Obituary - Bob Watts
19th August

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Bob Watts earlier today. Bob was one of the original founders of the Bampton & District League over fourty years ago

and has given long and loyal support to both Aunt Sally and to football in Witney. Despite his failing health, Bob manged to keep playing until last year.
He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts go out today to Margaret and the Watts family in their time of bereavement.
In recognition of Bob's contribution to the League, the Premiership Trophy will be inscribed 'The Bob Watts Trophy'

Match cancellations
19th August

Some of you can relate to the annoyance and frustration when the visiting team just fails to turn up on the night - not to mention the wasted food.
There have been a couple of instances recently where the away team has tried in good faith to communicate the cancellation.
So, some suggestions for clear communication:-
  • Try to speak directly to the captain - voicemails and emails may not get through. If you have to use either, ask for a call back /confirmation of receipt.
  • If you have to leave a message via the venue try to speak to a manager/landlord if possible. Get the name of the person you spoke to and ask for a call back from the captain.
  • The contact details on the team's web page are put there by the team. If there are errors - we don't know unless someone tells us.

Match adjudications
19th August

Adjudications of unplayed games is normally carried out at monthly Committee meetings. For the remainder of the season, any 'out of time' games will be adjudicated immediately.
This will enable teams to see their positions in relation to potential promotion/relegation. If the circumstances of an unplayed game are not clear, a sub-Committee decision will be taken.
Where late cancellations may affect league positions, the Committee will require those games to be played.

The game between Lamb & Flag C v Elm Tree was awarded to the former under Rule 3.1

There is an updated Fixtures list uploaded. Please destroy any previous copy. The change affects section F only and is a swap between positions 3 and 7.
This has come about following a team request for specific Home/Away combinations.
May we point out that the Committee meeting immediately following the AGM is for setting the League and is a complex process.
If a team has a specific requirement then it would be appreciated if we could be informed earlier.

8 A Side Competition - Advice
29th March

Over the past few years, we've seen an increasing number of teams opting out of the 8s competition - which is their prerogative. However some don't tell us and we create and publish
the draw and then receive complaints from teams whose opponents just never turned up - annoying if food was provided . So may I suggest that you check the draw listing and just call
your opponent and confirm that they're playing. Please inform Secretary of any changes.

Pre AGM Newsletter & Key Dates
23rd February

A copy of the Pre AGM newsletter and Key Dates can be downloaded from here and from the 'Document Downloads' link on the home page.
Note that an extra week has been inserted between the end of the league matches and the final 8 A Side heats. This is a 'catch-up' week for cancelled games, to help those still in the 8s.
Because of the increased use of phones to receive emails, then to keep data to a minimum, just a notification email will be sent out, rather than the full document.
