Competition attendances

Having reviewed competitions to date, the Committee wishes to bring to your attention, its extreme annoyance at the attendance figures:

Singles - 21/69 entrants failed to attend
Pairs - 7/49 pairs failed to attend
Primary 4 A Side - 2 teams cancelled
Secondary 4 A Side - 7/10 teams failed to attend

This year the Committee opted to share the good fortune of our sponsorship agreement by dropping entry fees and whilst the number of entries has increased, so has apathy and lack of commitment.

Time and effort is spent organising these events on your behalf and in many cases, the hosting venue provides food – only for people to not even have the courtesy to ring up and say they can’t attend.

Before anyone complains that they didn’t know the dates, can we point out that this year only three teams submitted competition entry forms by post – the remainder registered via the web site, where dates are prominently displayed on at least two separate pages.
Lack of awareness is not an acceptable excuse.

The Chairman would like to invite any non-attendees to ring him to discuss the matter. (01993 850217)

The issues of entry fees and indeed the future of certain competitions will need to be reviewed.

There are three remaining competitions this season: Mixed Pairs (02/08); Ladies (09/08) and Landlords (11/08) – if you have entered but cannot attend will you please notify us as early as possible.

Inter League - the full story
02/05/2009

Here's the first hand report from our team manager Dave Tillyer:-
"At the annual inter league competition the 1st round saw Bampton drawn against the Yarnton indoor league. Bampton set the first leg with a 23, Yarnton who could only manage a low 12 in reply. The 2nd leg saw Yarnton set and put 22 on the board, in response Bampton with six players gone needed only five for the win but it wasn't to be. The third leg saw Bampton hit 22 and steady scoring left Yarnton anchor man Neil Lyon need 3 for the win which he did with a stick in hand. Rowing Machines Phil Austin 524 top scored for Bampton and was well supported by Fox Leafields Mark Rollins 444 and Bampton president Fred Cook 442. Result Yarnton 2 Bampton 1 After losing in the 1st round Bampton dropped into the inter league plate competition and were drawn against the Bicester league. A six and two fives saw Bicester mark up a respectable 26 in the 1st. In reply Kevin Giles Bampton's top doll scorer hit a blistering six, Adey Pitts chipped in with a five only missing on his last and it was his brother Martyn who wrapped things up, anchorman Eddie Lacey hit a 3 to give Bampton a score of 30. The 2nd leg saw Bicester set again this time with 20. Kevin Giles was on target again with a five but was unlucky not to have been awarded a 2nd six, Bampton passed ther target with two players still to throw. Result Bampton 2 Bicester 0 The next round was the plate final and saw Bampton drawn against the Kidlington league who had just dispatched the Wychwood. Bampton set and put 23 on the board but four fours amongst others saw kidlington anchor man Alan Goodgame need 3 to take the 1st which he did with sticks to spare. The 2nd leg was make or break for Bampton and after setting they only put 20 on the score sheet. With four players gone Kidlington only had six dolls the next three players putting on another nine leaving anchor man Goodgame five to draw six for the win. Goodgame hit the first five and then clanged the doll off for a sixth and final time to send Bampton out of the competition. Plate final result Kidlington 2 Bampton 0 Many thanks to all who came and supported Bampton including League founder Bob Watts and his wife Margaret. The main inter league cup was won yet again by the Oxford league who beat Yarnton in the final ".

Our thanks to Dave for organising and to the team for giving it their best shot. Also thanks to those who travelled to support.
    Next year !!

    Downloadable documents
31st March

I'm slowly converting many downloadable documents to Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files so that we're independent of Word for
those who don't have it. Most computers have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. If you don't, there's a link to a download site
on our 'Links' page. (It's free!)

    New Page - Key Dates

    AGM Update

Information Pack ( due to be sent out around April 3rd/4th )

  • Season's Key Dates
All of the above will also be accessible from the web site within a couple of days.

    8 and 4 A Side Competitions

With the increased number of sections, we feel it would be more equitable if the split point for Primary/Secondary
    competitions was moved:

      Primary 4 A Side and 8 A Side Premier/A/B/C
      Secondary 4 A Side and 8 A Side D and below

These changes are reflected in the Rules, which have been updated for 2009. You can also download a copy from the 'Committee Stuff' section.

    FREE Competition Entries

All competitions are free to enter this year , so no excuses. Entry forms will be posted out shortly or you'll be able to enter
directly from the web site. Let's have a bumper year.

This year’s AGM will be held at the Morris Clown on Friday 27th March. The doors will be open at 7:30pm to take subscription fees and the meeting will commence at 8:00pm.
A poster advertising the AGM is downloadable. Please display it in your venue and arrange to send a representative to support and vote on the views of your team.

2. AGM - Voting

Will members please note that if they wish to raise an issue at the AGM that will result in a vote, that they should notify the Committee of that issue in writing, no later than Monday 16th March.
Any item spontaneously raised from the floor can of course be discussed, but cannot be voted on. The Committee will consider such issues and report back to the membership.
Voting will take place using issued cards on a strictly one vote per team basis.

3. Registration

It is currently possible to register teams via the web site, using last year’s data to make things easier. Note that there is an opt-in to enter the monthly Brewery Tour Prize Draw.
A registration form will be enclosed with the hard copy newsletter.

The deadline is 27th March, but we would appreciate registration as soon as possible.

If you know of any other venues or teams that have the desire and commitment to play in the Bampton League, please let me know, or get them to contact me.

4. Fees

We intend the fees to remain unchanged for 2009, so please let us have your £25, preferably in the form of a cheque.
You can post it to me, drop it into the Horseshoe, or bring it to the AGM. Receipts will be provided on request.

5. Supplies

Brian Collins will be invited to attend the AGM, so if you need any sticks, dolls or posts making up, let me know. I’ll order them in advance and you can collect them on the night.

A copy of this newsletter will be sent to the hard copy and e-mail circulation list within the next 24 hours
